Andy Walsh, PhD

Dr. Andy Walsh is a licensed counseling and sport psychologist based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He also is authorized to practice via telehealth under the Psychological Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT) in all participating states (https://psypact.org/mpage/psypactmap), and is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant through the Association of Applied Sport Psychology. Dr. Walsh has experience working with youth, collegiate, and professional athletes, as well as coaches and other sport professionals, on issues related to mental health (e.g., depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, OCD, eating disorders/disordered eating, substance use) and mental performance (e.g., confidence, performance anxiety, identity, motivation, focus). He also has worked with groups and teams related to team cohesion, culture, communiciation, habits, building skills, and other topics. Dr. Walsh practices from a variety of theoretical perspectives, incorporating aspects of ACT, CBT, interpersonal-relational work, DBT, and psychodynamic, and tailoring his work to the needs of the individual/group. 

 

Dr. Walsh completed his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology with a specialization in Sport and Performance Psychology from the University of North Texas. He completed his APA-Accredited Pre-Doctoral Internship at Northwestern University Counseling and Psychological Services, and served as the Inaugural Post-Doctoral Fellow in Sport Psychology in Northwestern's Athletic Department. He earned his B.A. in Psychology at Wabash College, where he played football and basketball, and his M.S. in Sport & Exercise Psychology and M.A. in Counseling at Ball State University.
